Everyone has a system for organising their bead stash whether it be by colour , shape , type , or material , and it's usually influenced by the way they design and the kind of jewellery they make. For me, I like to keep my go-to beads organised by colour - these are the beads that support the main element or focal point of the design. I also have a separate storage areas devoted to just crystals, one to pearls and gemstones, another to resin/acrylic/plastic, and yet another to large holed beads. There are of course more.... but you get the idea. This system works well for the way I design. But recently, I was looking through my bead collection and noticed a glaring gap in the rainbow of colours that makes up my bead stash: I have practically no yellow beads! I keep my beads organised using the Best Craft Organizer furniture system which I can customise to suit my needs. Yellow is such a cheerful and uplifting colour. It sings with happiness. And whilst it can be a bit overpowering ......

I am such a lucky Mum.... look what my husband and children gave me for Mother's Day! Of course, it didn't come assembled like this..... but it did come with instructions! I love putting together flat pack furniture, especially when it goes together this easily. So this is how I spent my Mother's Day...... Step 1. Unpack all the bits and check that they're all there. Step 2. Insert the screws into the pre drilled holes....... and then tighten with a screw driver. Step 3. Assemble the frame. By this stage, I was having so much fun that I forgot to photograph this step, but it's very easy as there are only five pieces; top, bottom, 2 sides and the back. Tighten the locking nuts that slot into the screws previously inserted. If you've ever assembled Ikea furniture then you'll know the process. Although this piece is from the Mini Stackables range by Best Craft Organizer, it's a very similar construction. Step 4. Screw in the castors and the unit is complet......

Lately, I've been feeling so cluttered and disorganised! Look at the inside of one of my bead drawers - no order, hard to find what I'm looking for, and a bit of a tangle. Unfortunately, most of my bead drawers look like this so it's time to bring some order to the chaos of the contents. I have some fabulous Effektiv drawer units which I've posted about before (alas, they are no longer available). Some house my stamps and papers and others house my beads and findings - and that's where I'm at, at the moment. I finally came to the conclusion that I need dividers to help organise this drawer and so off I went to Ikea to see what I could find. There were a couple of options such as the dividers designed to fit into the Effektiv drawers but I took a chance on the Rationell cutlery tray and it fits perfectly inside the drawers.... There is even a slot at the front of the drawer that the lip of the tray slides into and there is enough overhang on the sides to suppo......

Organising my studio got off to a great start earlier this year when I put together some Ikea storage units which now house much of the clutter I had lying around on my studio floor. At the moment I'm working on some storage ideas to house all the bits and pieces that clutter my desk and this will be an on going challenge. Given that I'm not a tidy person and the 30cm of clear space on my workspace seems to be shrinking as the clutter threatens to completely engulf it, I thought I'd start working on some of the things that need containment. I have a growing collection of beads and jewellery findings in a variety of colours and metals and I keep these in round plastic containers which screw into each other to create stacks. I have rows of these cannisters (just plain and undecorated) and they fit nicely when laid side by side in my Effektiv drawer units and it's easy to identify the contents because they're clear. But they are rather boring to look at, so I decorated......
