Today's featured product comes from Judikins who kindly gave me some Mica Gloss to work with. Mica Gloss is a pigment ink and comes in a range of 18 rich metallic colours. It has an almost irridescent look about it when it's applied to dark surfaces. So that's where I've started today. I gave the Diy Bangle a coat of black acrylic paint on all surfaces and let it dry.
Next I stippled on some Gold and Chocolate Mica Gloss using a dry brush with just the very tips of the bristles dipped into the ink. I also painted the inside of the bangle with a light coat of Gold Mica Gloss.
Whilst that was drying, I squeezed out a line of Gold onto a piece of acetate and placed a stencil in the ink and spread it around a bit.Once inked, I laid the stencil on a flat surface inked side up and rolled the bangle along the stencil pressing my fingers on the inside to get a good impression on the bangle.Because the stencil is only 6" x 6", I needed to re-ink and roll the other half of the bangle to complete the pattern. I left the ink on the stencil and cleaned it up once I'd finished the bangle. There's no rush to clean the stencil because the ink needs to be heat set on non porous surfaces. At this stage the ink is quite wet so you have to keep your fingers off the surface or it will smear but I used a heat gun to help speed up drying so I could move on. I didn't dry it off completely but just enough so that it was only slightly tacky. The daisies needed to be softened a little bit so I added some adhesive in the centre of the flowers........
and sprinkled them with brown glitter. The glitter also adhered to the still slightly tacky daisies which helped to tone them down too. To remove the excess glitter I gave the bangle a sharp tap on the bench.A coat of Diamond Glaze to make sure that the glitter stayed put finished off the bangle and also gave it a nice sheen. It dried in just 2 or 3 minutes - amazing stuff!
The finished bangle - Coming Up Daisies.
And here's a variation where the daisies are painted in different colours of Mica Gloss and sprinkled with a matching glitter. My thanks go to Judikins for supplying the Mica Gloss and Diamond Glaze used in this project. You can see more techniques using Mica Gloss on the Judikins website.
